Color Me Katie

Katie Skoloer is a street artist who lives in Brooklyn. Not only is she a street artist but also works as a freelance  photographer. She is a true creative mind who likes to work with all mediums of art. I wanted to share her with you because she has a new way of looking at art. She is not only adorable and turns the ordinary to extraordinary which I think is a talent that many people do not posses. Her blog is always fun to look at and see how she sees life. There was also a fun Documentary made about her. She always tries to brighten up the things around her and add color to daily life.
She does a lot of photos with things that she has made out of paper (as seen above), sidewalk chalk and stickers! If you ever want to check out some of her work look
here!

I love what she does because it is so different than a lot of work that we see today. She is creative, fun and colorful which is so refreshing. Her art matters because we need all kinds of art in society to keep it interesting  She looks at the world in a new way that is always positive!

Girl In Mirror by Picasso

Picasso's Girl In Mirror, Boisgeloup, March 1932, this is basically the reason why I have chosen to further my education for a career in Art. In elementary school, we had an art history lesson before were to create something for art class. In the third grade our art teacher showed us a slide on cubism mainly focusing in Picasso. This image was also used in her slide show. With this, I was instantly fascinated by how he used color and shape to create to sides of this woman. I also feel complete that I was able to see this painting in the MoMA, in New York, New York. It's just simply AMAZING.

Where's Waldo

The greatest art in the history of man is the art in the “where’s Waldo?” books! Martin Handford is a beast…enough said. Every page is full of so much random stuff you’ll want to puke all over yourself and then eat it all up because its so good you cant help but want to experience it again. In visual art there is this cool thing called horror vacui. It means the fear of white space. It’s where the artist puts something on every square inch of that page…IN ORDER TO MAKE THE COOLEST MOST ADHD THING EVER!!!!!! These books are the best example of this style! That is a bold statement but I will go to my grave defending these books. I love this work because of how all of the pages look super duper chaotic but they all are unified and balanced in the BEST way ever. I love it for this reason. You’re going to love it for this reason if you do not already. If you do not love it already then you are not a person. This is a fact of life because these books have everything in them. You would have to be blind to not to find something in here that you absolutely love. THESE BOOKS EVEN COME IN BRAIL SO EVEN THE BLIND WILL LOVE SOMETHING IN HERE!!! The pages feel amazing in these books!!! Just look at the work and rub your fingers all over it. It feels sooooooooo good. Rub every part of your body all over the pages and feel the  perfectness of  this artwork in its purest form.

Tim Burton

Google Image superpunch.blogspot,com

I have always been fascinated with Tim Burton, he is my favorite movie director. I have liked all of his movies and his drawings. I really like the fact that all of his drawings connect in some way. They all have the same texture and even though his drawings look freaky and weird, I see a bit of beauty in them.

I appreciate Tim Burton's movies as well. I love that he works with clay and most of his animated sets are model cities made to look like a real suburban town or a big forest. I love what he did with Alice In Wonderland, he made a child's story into a crazy creepy story, which was amazing.

He has an art exhibition coming up in November at the NYC MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)

Annie Leibovitz Critique

Annie Leibovitz has been an influential photographer since the 1970’s. She is known for her provocative portraits of celebrities in the magazines Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and The New York Times Magazine. This photograph of Miley Cyrus was taken in February 2008 when the starlet was fifteen. This photo turned into a controversial ordeal because of Miley’s parents not being present while it was happening and the fact she is nude. But there are tons of pictures by Leibovitz just like this in the same style, which is fantastic! I believe that Leibovitz’s style is so great because no other artist does exactly the same thing she does with her photos. Her art is so raw and beautiful and no other artist comes close.

Field and Storm, 2004, Oil on linen, 74" x 95"

April Gornik
got her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1976.

She wrote, “I am an artist that values, above all, the ability of art to move me emotionally and psychically. I make art that makes me question, that derives its power from being vulnerable to interpretation, that is intuitive, that is beautiful.”

This reminds me of all my instructors and art teacher’s I have or had.

She has work in many museums in New York and in Washington, DC.

The artwork I have decided to post here is Field and Storm, it reminds me of home. I come from the country and being here in St. Paul makes me miss home and the country. I think she did a good job at showing the dark sky and the brighter colors of the field. I value artwork that has the country scene or feeling.

The Road to El Dorado

My critique is on the animated movie "The Road to El Dorado" written by Tery Rossio and produced by Dreamworks. As a child this was one of my favorite movies and still is today. This movie is one of the major factors in choosing my career path of an animation artist. I love the beautiful scenery throughout the movie and the unforgettable character design. I have always been amazed by the movie and how well developed the artwork is. It is a great piece of "visual eye candy." My favorite scene would have to be when the two main characters are exploring the new world trying to find "The City of Gold", it's simply breath taking. The unforgettable music performed by Sir Elton John also helps the feel of the movie tie together. This inspired me so much because I now want to create a movie that children will love as much as I did this when I was a child and still love to this day.
